We want every experience on Teach & Learn to be a positive one. This policy explains when refunds apply and how they are handled.
Last updated: October 2026
Teach & Learn takes a fair and considered approach to refunds. Outside the statutory rights described in Section 2, refunds are not automatically issued: each case is reviewed to ensure both the student and the tutor are treated fairly. Refund decisions are made by Teach & Learn administration and are final once communicated, without limiting your statutory rights or your right to complain to a competent authority.
This Refund Policy forms part of our Terms of Service. By using the platform, you agree to the terms set out here.
Nothing in this policy limits any right you have under South African law that cannot lawfully be limited.
2.1 Seven-Day Cooling-Off (Online Purchases)
Under section 44 of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002 (ECTA), a consumer may cancel an online transaction for services within seven days after the agreement is concluded, without giving a reason and without penalty. If you have already paid, you are entitled to a full refund, which must be made within 30 days of cancellation.
2.2 Exception for Services Already Started
Section 42(2) of ECTA excludes the cooling-off right for certain transactions, including services that began with the consumer's consent before the end of the seven-day period. By subscribing to Self Study you ask for access to begin as soon as your payment is confirmed, so the cooling-off right does not apply to Self Study once access has begun. Refunds for Live Group Tutoring are dealt with in Section 4. If you believe the exception does not apply to your purchase, please contact us within seven days of paying and we will review your request.
2.3 How to Cancel
To exercise a statutory right, email info@teachandlearn.co.za with the name on your account and the date of your payment.
3.1 General Rule
Self Study is a digital product, and access to content begins as soon as your payment is confirmed. Self-study subscriptions are not refundable, for the full monthly rate charged, subject only to the statutory rights described in Section 2.
3.2 Technical Faults
If a confirmed technical fault on Teach & Learn's side prevented you from accessing the service for a significant portion of your subscription period, you may contact us at info@teachandlearn.co.za to request a review. Teach & Learn will assess the case and may, at its sole discretion, extend your subscription period to make up the lost access. An extension is not a refund.
3.3 Free Trial
Teach & Learn offers a number of free worksheets before requiring a subscription. We encourage all users to make use of this free access before subscribing so that you can assess the platform for your needs.
Live Group Tutoring is billed as a single monthly cohort fee, paid upfront, covering the lessons and assessments for that month. A tutor and class can be a great match for one student and not quite right for another, depending on learning style, pace or schedule. This is not a reflection on the tutor or the student. If a student would like a change, they may choose one of the following:
Lessons the student has already attended or forfeited are not refunded. The administration fee will be notified to you before you confirm a refund request.
To make a request, please contact us at info@teachandlearn.co.za.
If a student does not attend a scheduled lesson, that lesson is forfeited. A forfeited lesson is not refundable, including when the student later requests a refund of the remaining lessons under Section 4.
Missing a lesson does not affect the lessons that have not yet taken place.
If a tutor fails to attend a scheduled lesson without prior notice, the student will be provided a replacement lesson with a substitute tutor at no additional charge. No refund is issued for that lesson, since it is honoured through the replacement lesson.
The session will be flagged for admin review and the tutor's account will be subject to a performance review. To report a tutor no-show, please contact us at info@teachandlearn.co.za within 24 hours of the scheduled session time.
Lessons the student has already attended are not refundable. A refund for an attended lesson may be considered only in the case of a confirmed technical fault on Teach & Learn's infrastructure that made the session impossible to conduct.
If you are unhappy with a lesson's content or teaching approach, you can raise it through the rating and dispute system within the 72-hour window. This will be reviewed by the admin team and may result in remedial action against the tutor. If you would like a different tutor or class, see Section 4.
If a session was significantly disrupted by a technical issue, the party responsible for the disruption matters:
All technical fault claims must be raised within 24 hours of the session by emailing info@teachandlearn.co.za.
Approved refunds are processed back to the original payment method used at the time of purchase, through our payment gateway. Processing times are subject to your bank or card issuer and are typically completed within 5 to 10 business days of approval. Refunds owed under ECTA section 44 are made within 30 days of cancellation.
Teach & Learn will notify you by email once a refund has been approved and processed.
